Phonetic & Phonological Salience Effects in Different Speech Processing Tasks

چکیده
This paper provides evidence for both effects of phonetic and phonological salience in speech processing. Results from three experiments are presented, each examining the relative processing two sounds by speakers different languages. In experiment, one is more phonetically salient other phonologically given morphophonological patterning langauges. Phonetic emerged shorter-term tasks that were longer-term required

Phonological simplifications, apraxia of speech and the interaction between phonological and phonetic processing
Research on aphasia has struggled to identify apraxia of speech (AoS) as an independent deficit affecting a processing level separate from phonological assembly and motor implementation. This is because AoS is characterized by both phonological and phonetic errors and, therefore, can be interpreted as a combination of deficits at the phonological and the motoric level rather than as an independ...
متن کاملPhonetic and Phonological Annotation of Speech Prosody
1.1 Prosodic form and prosodic function Like all aspects of language, speech prosody can be described both from the point of view of its form and of its function. One particular characteristic of speech prosody, which is rather different to other aspects of language, is the fact that both the functions and the forms of prosody are nearly universal. From the point of view of prosodic forms, all ...
متن کاملThe Phonetic and Phonological Effects of Moribundity
Structural change in a language are considered nearly inevitable consequences of language death (Campbell and Muntzel 1989; Wolfram 2002). The literature on sound change in endangered languages has focused on whether the changes are internally or externally motivated, and, therefore, the difference between categorical sound shifts and gradient phonetic effects has been overlooked (cf. Campbell ...
متن کاملPhonological Processing of Speech Variants
This paper describes a strategy for the extension of the phonological lexicon in order that nonstandard forms which arise in fast speech may be processed by a speech recognition system. By way of illustration, an outline of the phonological processing of standard wordforms by the phonological parser (PhoPa) is given and then the extension procedure which is based on this phonological parser is ...
متن کاملMethods for Integrating Phonetic and Phonological Knowledge in Speech Inversion
Exploiting the information about the vocal tract shape that produced the speech has been appealing to speech researchers and scientists for a long period of time. Experimental studies that included the articulatory information from physiological measurements supported the idea that this information could be useful in a number of areas of speech science and technology. However, the estimation of...
